Candor
Last week we had our eleventh focus jam of the year and the theme was: “Candor.”
A dictionary definition of Candor:
1) Frankness or sincerity of expression; openness.
2) Freedom from prejudice; impartiality.
Etymology:
To glow white
A live coal
Incandescent
Incense: material for producing perfume
Candle
Candidate (!)
Here are some notes from the debrief we did at the end of the jam:
When I dance I go pass through three levels: an emotional where I become frank with myself about where I am at in the moment. A candor of my desires, where I can be aware of what I want in the dance. And a kinesthetic candor, where the desires and emotions drop away and I’m responding reflexively to the present dance with this partner.
As I danced tonight I was looking for “candor” but found: “sincere,” “genuine,” and “authentic.” I’m still looking for candor.
This is the most emotional jam I’ve attended. I cried for 20 minutes—then danced alone-- and then only danced with people I know well.
This theme led me to being “forthright.” I began to verbally ask for what I wanted-- which I normally don’t do.
Candor seemed to mean “no apology.” Nice ingredient to dance with.
I found myself confused with trying to remain honest with myself -- and honoring all my different parts.
I found I was in a space where I could not be completely candid with where I was at.
Felt a simplicity because of the word, “candor.” I was surprised I could follow the playful instinct with the constraint of ‘candor.’
