Boston Focus Jam Observations

*** Simplicity ***

We had a large turnout. Here are some notes from the comments given at the closing circle:

*** With this focus I had less of my internal immobilizing voices that often keep me from dancing.

*** As a newcomer to the jam and to this dance form, the focus made it all less scary than I anticipated.

*** I fought against the theme by making everything more baroque -- more elaborate, lots of filigree and extra notes.

*** Every time I tried to get simple I became aware of how complex things are. The ‘simple’ act of walking, or standing in balance, are extremely complex actions when you become aware of them.

*** My goal tonight was to keep my thoughts simple. To not go to my miserable places. And lo and behold, it was easier to be here.

*** I caught myself planning how a dance would go. By ‘catching’ myself I could then let go of the plan and actually dance with my partner.

*** I played with the feeling that everything works together. And just by imagining this, it made it simpler for it all to actually work together.

*** I found myself doing one simple thing again and again. I found simplicity in repetition.

*** I noticed eye contact tonight as a ‘simple’ way to initiate dances. I want to practice more of that.

*** The focus tonight generated one word for me: unfettered.
